A deep thinker and intuitive strategist, Amelia Sargent focuses on high-stakes complex commercial litigation and trials. Clients rely on Amelia’s judgment, incisive arguments, and her ability to weave the law and case facts into a winning narrative.
As Counsel in both the Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles offices, Amelia has more than thirteen years of experience litigating a diverse array of complex commercial disputes, including trade secret misappropriation and employee mobility actions, breach of contract, mass torts, copyright infringement, and cultural property disputes. Prior to joining Larson, she orchestrated and led the damages strategy for a high-profile matter in Delaware Chancery Court, in which she presented two key percipient witnesses at trial, to secure an award for the client of over $448 million. As lead counsel, Amelia has leveraged her skillful negotiation and forensic expertise to successfully resolve numerous trade secret matters on behalf of key executives and employees, often before litigation is even filed. On behalf of a Korean LED manufacturer, she briefed, argued, and won simultaneous motions for summary judgment, and briefed, argued, and won the subsequent Ninth Circuit appeal. On three occasions, Amelia has had the honor of drafting and submitting amicus curiae briefs to the Supreme Court of the United States.
Amelia also represents nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and related entities in a wide range of matters. These clients value her ability to balance litigation goals with the values of mission-driven organizations and the communities they serve. Amelia is an adjunct professor at the University of California College of Law, San Francisco (formerly U.C. Hastings), where she teaches “Art and the Law.”
Amelia began her career handling all types of complex commercial litigation at an AmLaw “A-List” firm, and, prior to joining Larson, served as a partner at an elite boutique trial firm in Los Angeles. Amelia graduated from Stanford Law School, where she won two book prizes and served as co-editor of the Stanford Journal of International Law. She also has Ph.D. in Comparative Literature, focused on medieval studies, from the University of California, Berkeley.
