Hilary Potashner Once Again Recognized in “Top Women Lawyers”

Daily Journal, California’s preeminent legal newspaper, recognizes partner Hilary Potashner as part of the “Top Women Lawyers” of 2023.

The annual special edition honors California’s leading female lawyers, who have demonstrated commitment to their clients, community, and practice over the year as well as throughout their entire careers. Hilary’s profile showcases her decades of experience, having led the federal public defender’s office for the Central District of California for nearly five years and served as an attorney in the office for 13 years before that. In private practice, Hilary has run up a string of successes ranging from early resolutions and declinations to trial and arbitration victories.

We’ve had success where we’ve reached out to the U.S. government or the district attorney to give them a more complete understanding of the circumstances, and we’re often happy that they find there’s nothing to prosecute when they have all of the information in front of them,” Hilary explains to the Daily Journal.

The Daily Journal also highlights some of Hilary’s most recent and notable cases, including representing a high-profile widow in a dispute over her late husband’s estate, representing a prominent law firm in proceedings involving fraud allegations, and investigating the foster care and conservatorship systems in Riverside County. The Riverside investigation garnered significant media attention after the rescue of the 13 Turpin children from their abusive home in 2018. The firm, led by Hilary and founding partner Stephen G. Larson, submitted a comprehensive 634-page report in July containing recommendations to improve communications within the County’s social service agencies, which influenced Gov. Gavin Newsom to sign a bill later that year to improve communication among foster agencies throughout the entire state of California.

There were a lot of eyes on this report, and we were very pleased that the Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted our recommendations,” Hilary said to the Daily Journal.

Larson congratulates Hilary, and all of this year’s honorees, on being recognized as “the best women lawyers in California.” See the full list of the “Top Women Lawyers 2023” on the Daily Journal website here, and see Hilary’s full profile here (subscription required).
