Daily Journal has once again recognized partner Stephen G. Larson as one of the “Top 100 Lawyers in California” for a seventh consecutive year.
The annual special edition celebrates California attorneys doing cutting-edge legal work and who have had the most impact in the legal industry in the past year. Marking his seventh consecutive year on this list, Stephen’s profile highlights his recent matters that have had a significant impact on the public, including representing the Orange County Water District in its efforts to clean up contaminated groundwater sources, representing business and families harmed by a major oil spill off the coast of Orange County in a class action lawsuit against Amplify Energy Corp., and submitting a 634-page report to Riverside County Board of Supervisors that provided practical and actionable recommendations to improve outcomes for vulnerable children and adults under the supervision and care of the County.
One of the most impactful cases Stephen worked on in the past year was the firm’s investigation into Riverside County’s foster services. The investigation was prompted following the ABC “20/20” special on Louise and David Turpin’s abuse of their 13 children and the further mistreatment they received while in the care of the County. Three months after the County adopted Stephen and team’s recommendations, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill to improve communication within foster agencies. “That was the primary issue we identified in our investigation — there was a lack of communication and sharing that information with provider agencies,” Stephen said to the Daily Journal.
In addition, the profile highlights his role in the class action against Amplify Energy Corp. and other shipping companies responsible for the oil spill off the coast of Huntington Beach, which resulted in a combined settlement of nearly $100 million, providing much needed compensation to the business and families that were harmed.
