Catherine Owens is an experienced litigator who has represented a wide range of clients in both state and federal court.
Her practice focuses on all aspects of complex commercial litigation and white collar defense, ranging from class actions to patent infringement to fraud and other business disputes. She has represented clients in a variety of industries, including some of the world’s largest social media, technology, and pharmaceutical companies.
From the initial investigation to mediation, arbitration, or trial, Catherine skillfully guides her clients through all phases of litigation. She is adept at handling pleadings, injunctions, written discovery, depositions, and motions practice with a strategy driven by each client’s optimal goal. Catherine’s significant representations include advocating on behalf of a social media company whose highly confidential information was improperly leaked to foreign authorities; defending a social media company and its executives against a putative class action for mail/wire fraud under the RICO statute; defending two patent infringement suits on behalf of a leading mobile phone chipmaker; and providing crisis management advice to an oil and gas company sued for negligence.
Before joining Larson, Catherine was a litigator at an Am Law 100 firm in Los Angeles. She also served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Rodney Gilstrap in the Eastern District of Texas. As a clerk, she worked on a variety of cases—many of which went to trial—including breach of FRAND, patent infringement, and employment discrimination. She also accompanied and assisted Judge Gilstrap on four cases (one civil, one criminal, and two immigration) when he sat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit by designation in Pasadena.
