Partner Kori L. Bell is speaking on a webinar panel during the American Bar Association (ABA) 2020 Virtual Institute on White Collar Crime on June 10.

“From FIFA to NCAA and Varsity Blues: The Trend of Enhanced Enforcement Efforts in Traditionally Self-Regulated Sectors” addresses the recent movement in aggressive investigation and prosecution by federal prosecutors in the areas of domestic and international sports corruption and college admission. The panel will explore this trend, focusing on the federal interest underlying these cases, the reason the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) invests resources into pursuing them, the legal theories used, and their jurisdictional bases. The presentation will also cover the most effective defenses available, the results of those cases, and whether they resulted in lasting reforms.

On the panel with Kori are Miguel Liétard of FIFA, Joan McPhee of Ropes & Gray, Mark C. Moore of Nexsen Pruet, and Samuel P. Nitze of the DOJ. The panel will be moderated by Caroline Judge Mehta of Zuckerman Spaeder.

The 2020 Virtual Institute on White Collar Crime marks the 34th year of the annual White Collar Crime National Institute. An eight-part webinar series spread over four days, the event is open to both ABA members and non-members and offers CLE credits in various states.
