Director of Marketing

Larson is seeking an experienced, strategic self-starter with a client service mindset to serve as the Director of Marketing.

The Director of Marketing leads Larson’s marketing department, which comprises the firm’s marketing, communications, business development, and community outreach initiatives. The marketing department also develops and maintains the firm’s brand, style, and voice consistency across all internal and external marketing and communications. Supported by and overseeing the Marketing Coordinator, the Director of Marketing provides business support to the firm’s attorneys that is critical to their day-to-day operations, marketing and business development objectives, and long-term growth.

The Director of Marketing works closely with firm leadership to strategize and execute all external marketing objectives to increase Larson’s visibility in the legal industry and community. This position is responsible for developing and implementing innovative and creative marketing and business development initiatives that focus on expanding Larson’s client base and enhancing the firm’s brand recognition.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Manage the firm’s legal ranking and award submission process and drive an effective strategy for identifying and achieving recognition that reflects the firm’s successes.
  • Write marketing collateral and business development content used in client pitches and proposals, leveraging a strong knowledge of the firm’s capabilities and value proposition.
  • Identify and coordinate opportunities to publicize the firm’s achievements through press releases, interviews, and integrated marketing and business development campaigns.
  • Contribute to and provide creative direction for compelling content and graphics for website and LinkedIn posts, ads, event invitations, a monthly internal newsletter, and other firm materials.
  • Plan client-facing, networking, and other professional events; coordinate internal continuing legal education and professional development presentations.
  • Lead the onboarding and integration of lateral partners and their client base; draft and edit new attorney biographies.
  • Oversee the maintenance of a client relationship management (CRM) system of firmwide professional contacts and a comprehensive database of the firm’s current and historical matters.
  • Monitor firmwide memberships and professional and charitable sponsorships; identify and facilitate opportunities for attorneys to participate in relevant conferences and speaking engagements.
  • Develop and execute marketing and business development plans for the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.
  • Research and report on industry data and trends; track and report on results of client-centric marketing and business development campaigns.
  • Work with the firm’s partnership to develop and execute business development plans that align with the firm’s growth objectives.
  • Develop and manage an annual marketing budget to align with firm priorities.

Required Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field a plus.
  • A minimum of five years of prior marketing and business development experience, preferably for a law firm with a strong litigation presence or other professional services company.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Canva, and Adobe Creative Cloud—specifically Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of professionalism and ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the proven ability to work with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-profile relationships and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Creative thinker with exceptional attention to detail, an eye for design, and an appreciation for brand consistency.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills with the demonstrated ability to develop solutions and recommendations from multiple sources of information.
  • Experience supervising and motivating a direct report.
